Day 344

Completely fantastic family photoshoot at a completely fantastic location. View full post at: http://sarahandersonphotography.blogspot.com/2011/12/cuteness-in-dracena-park-piedmont.html. I just love this photo so much. It just makes me smile.

Day 342

Christmas cooking with my buddy, Christmas music, and a beer equals a fantastic Thursday late afternoon! Sometimes parenting can be complicated, challenging, and cranky making . . . but it is imperative to put EVERYTHING else aside, find the joy, relish in it, and cherish it.

Day 339

I had a little mini photoshoot in the backyard with Liam because I've been trying to get him to wear this shirt for a year now ...I finally talked him into it yesterday for the family photoshoot and now he's decided he LOVES it and wanted to wear it to school and he just looks so cute in it and grown up and we got him new jeans and mostly because I felt like I couldn't focus on getting a good shot of just him yesterday without him running around or growling at the camera and now I'm done with this horrible run-on sentence..... :) He's just about the cutest freakin thing in my life...hope he makes you smile :)

Day 338

Ahhhh...the yearly family "self" photoshoot with tripod and camera timer. Slightly maddening, slightly annoying, often argument provoking, but always humorous and entertaining nonetheless. It goes down like this: "guys, go stand over there, no not like that, no over there, no, move over a little bit, ok now don't move (fool with camera for five minutes), guys, seriously stay still, ok, now mommy's coming...wait, here we go (set timer, run to join boys in heeled boots through the grass, and realize I don't know where I'm going to stand), Liam look at the camera, no not at us, no come back, (camera clicks), shit. alright, let's do it again...." This goes on for literally a half an hour until I get one that I'm not frowning and Keegan's eyes aren't closed and Liam is not a complete blur of three year old movement. Oh well, somehow in my mind, they are completely different images so the perfectionist in me suffers, but somehow it doesn't matter because they are pretty cute regardless. Next year, I'm hiring a professional :)

Day 337

When I was recuperating from my ACL surgery, a former coworker contacted me to see if I would be interested in taking some photographs of her new blended family. Just hours after my arrival home from the hospital, my hopes of ever being able to run after a family with my camera again were somewhat diminished. But I basically had shot myself in the foot (or the knee actually) with the timing of the surgery falling right when everyone wants their holiday photos taken so I was lusting for a shoot. I hastily agreed not really knowing if it was feasible in 4 weeks from the email or not. At any rate, it happened and it was great. Luckily, the girls were slightly older so no running required really. See the full post at http://sarahandersonphotography.blogspot.com/2011/12/sunset-on-farm-pt-reyes-family.html.

Day 336

A self portrait of sorts, this concept stemmed mostly from the scars on my knee and the ever increasing physical self criticism that we all encounter, especially as we increase in age. In the end, I couldn't get a good one of my knee, but in the process, came out with a few good ones of other areas.
December-1

Day 335

Slightly voyeuristic in nature perhaps, but really it was just meant to be a innocent depiction of a scene I have wanted to capture all year, which is the funny way my cats hang out with me while I take a bath. It's this love/hate relationship that they have with water that draws them in and then Henrik takes the bath ledge and Henning takes the toilet pretty much the entirety of bath time. At any rate, I was laying here feeling self conscious of my body, my scarred knee, my changing love handles, etc. (bath time is supposed to be relaxing mind you) and I came up with the concept for the next day's shoot . . .

Day 333

IMG_0244-2

Day 332

IMG_0237

Day 331

Liam has developed a slight obsession for jumping off high things . . . things higher than he is tall actually. As you can imagine, given my recent ACL reconstructive surgery, I am not so excited about this. He and his dad were having quite the time at the park on Sunday scaring the bejeebers out of me until I told Keegan not to tear his ACL. Apparently that was enough to freak him out and make him stop . . . but, clearly, there's no stopping this guy :) Luckily, there is still a hint of caution left in his 3 year old body ....well....a little anyway....
IMG_0217

Day 330

Took our guests up to Russia River Wine Country on Saturday for some fall wine tasting. I've always just been so amazed at how the vines turn fall colors and happily took some commissioned photographs for one of Keegan's coworkers. How blessed are we to live an hour away from this?!
November1

Day 329

Liam and I had a lovely, restful, quiet day after Thanksgiving as our guests headed into the city and Keegan headed back to work. We stayed in our jammies until 330, had a nap, watched some basketball, and got some serious lego building in. Liam has been making some pretty cool creations lately!
IMG_0103

Day 328

Happy Thanksgiving!! We were thankful not to set foot in an airport this Thanksgiving, for friends coming to see us, and for an overall wonderful day. Cooked my second Thanksgiving dinner ever and it was pretty darn good if I do say so myself. Menu: Pomegranate Cocktail and Cheese, Spanish Serrano Ham Olive Plate; Fall Salad with Pears, Oranges, Fennel and Shallot Vinaigrette; Herb Butter Roasted Turkey with Carmelized Onion Gravy, Pancetta Mashed Potatoes, Keegan's famous Sausage Stuffing, Maple Glazed Carrots, and Brunello di Montalcino; Pumpkin Cheesecake with Gingersnap crust and Brachetto di Acqui. Yum.

Day 327

Liam had a totally cute Thanksgiving Celebration at his school this afternoon, complete with pilgrims and indians, stone soup created by all these little people, and cornbread. Here you see the kids reaching across the table to shake hands before they dig in. We had a bit of a crisis on our hands before this as for some reason I was all confused and accidentally scheduled an ortho appt. for the morning. I wasn't sure I was going to be able to get back in time to pick him up at 12, the school was closing so I couldn't leave him there late, and Keegan had a meeting. In the end, I told him we weren't going to be able to make it. I tried to feel better about this awful scheduling conflict by highlighting the fact that I had been in the classroom all morning the previous day, helping the kids make these cute little hats you see them wearing, but Liam was beside himself nonetheless. Mostly, he was pretty pissed he was going to miss out on the cornbread that he had helped make. I offered to make cornbread with him that afternoon, but it didn't seem to alleviate the sadness. I felt so bad. He was in pitiful, pitiful tears all morning. But somehow, we miraculously drove into the city, managed to find a close parking spot, get in and out of the dr. office in 30 minutes, drive back to the East Bay and make it to his school by exactly 11 am, when the lunch started!! Phew. Liam devoured his cornbread in about 5 minutes, had no interest in the soup, and was ready to go after that! Oh well, I felt so much better that we made it afterall.

Day 326

He's completely in my way, but there is just something so sweet about having this little person at my feet doing his own little thing while I cook dinner.
IMG_0077

Day 325

After a slow few weeks of recuperating, Liam and I finally made it out this day for a playdate with the fellas. The boys spent the entire time down in the woods building a huge pile of sticks and dirt (which, of course, is dangerous work requiring helmets!). Caught them all sitting still for a moment here while they enjoyed a graham cracker break :)

Day 324

Classic, rainy, Fall day here in CA. Just woke up from my Sunday afternoon nap. Bliss.
November-2

Day 323

With the recent time change and darkness fast approaching at 430 these days, I've caught myself in the late afternoons more than once this week without any photo of the day opps. Sometimes, it just makes you work harder to be creative with what you've got and usually ends up being a fun exercise in "make it work," as Tim Gunn says :)
IMG_0031

Day 322

Rain just makes things look cooler . . . like this parking lot for instance. It's a good thing as it appears I'll have lots of chances to shoot in the rain in the coming weeks as this project comes to a close!
IMG_0030

Day 321

Liam has had lots of playtime with my mom, Keegan's mom, and Keegan while I've been recovering from ACL surgery. I am feeling a lot better now, but it's been SO nice to relinquish some of my mommy duties to my troops :) In particular, Keegan has definitely raised in ranks as playmate in Liam's eyes and even with our moms back to their lives and me up and about, Liam continues to trail on Daddy's heels. It's sweet and Keegan relishes the attention. At any rate, I caught him in a quiet moment playing by himself for once....

Day 315

There might be a chill in the air and the leaves might be turning and falling, but that doesn't mean our sun isn't still shining. Some spectacular sunsets right outside our front door lately.
IMG_9951

Day 314

Caught sight of some signs of winter slowly making its way into town. Who says we don't have seasons here?!
IMG_9910-1

Day 313

Had to send my momma home today after a long 10 days of recovery. I'm up and at 'em now though so it was time to say goodbye and send her back to my dad before he got too mad at me for keeping her so long! She was a good buddy for Liam to have around.

Day 310

The hardest thing about being stuck on the couch all week is being cooped up inside on a beautiful day like today. Made it out to the front porch at least.
IMG_9888

Day 309

Liam has had lots of quality time with Daddy and my mom this week. At some point, we brought out a box of "big boy" legos that I had in storage and Liam got totally into it. Of course, Keegan excitedly ran right out the next day to buy him a new "big boy" lego building kit. It's like some sort of right of passage or something, seeing him work with these new legos. Now we have little legos littering our living room, a sight I imagine I will be seeing for the next 7 years or so....
IMG_9881

Day 308

Warning: not for the faint of heart. Also not for those who are looking for sexy photographs of me. One of my friends aptly named me "Frankensarah." Bleh.
IMG_9873

Day 307

Mom's in town to take care of me. Not only is she the best nurse in town, but she is also the best cook in town! This was just my appetizer :)
IMG_9870

Day 306

Henrik, the cat, is my ambassador of recovery. Today I tried to document his ever caring presence throughout the day. He took sympathy naps with me, kept my blankets warm (haha), snuggled with me, and generally expressed his sincerest concern for my well-being, the way a cat can at least. Perhaps I am mistaking his support for his hourly quest for a warm spot to snooze, but I think I'll stick to the original theory . . . makes me feel loved.November

Day 305

Liam had a little post holiday depression the few days after Halloween. We've finally managed to take most of the "spooky" decorations down without too much argument.

Day 304

Day one of extreme couch potato action. Couch to bathroom to bed back to couch again. That is pretty much my route so far.
IMG_9843

Day 303

ACL reconstructive surgery day. My biggest concern: How am I going to continue taking a picture a day with a bum knee?! Well, perhaps that wasn't my BIGGEST concern, but it was up there. My apologies in advance if the next week or two are a little boring. Sometimes constraints can provoke extra creative spark though so we'll see! Surgery day went really well. When I woke up from anesthesia, my first question was, "Did you fix it?" followed by, "Can I play basketball tomorrow?!" Well, no basketball yet of course, but I am feeling pretty darn good now considering. I am able to put a fair amount of weight on the leg, but the pain meds are extreme so hopefully that isn't clouding my assessment. Either way, on my way to full recovery and just glad this is mostly behind me now.

Day 302

Halloween party fun.

Day 300

Wow, talk about a reality check. Day 300!! Crazy. This project sadly will all too soon be complete. Today's image is of my little dragon. Man, was this guy INTO Halloween this year. He was a Halloween madman. His favorite part of the day was walking to school and seeing how people had transformed their houses into "spooky." The spookier the better too. I thought for sure some of that stuff out there would give him nightmares, but he was glutton. View more images of our masterful creation of a costume here:

Day 298

Spent the afternoon at the park with my lovely lady Vic, her twins and the little guy. Baby J, you have the sweetest little face and demeanor ever! Look at him. Don't you just want to eat him up?!

Day 297

Took Liam out for a photoshoot with these ridiculously cute overalls. View the whole post at: http://sarahandersonphotography.blogspot.com/2011/10/firefighter-to-rescue.html

Day 296

Enjoying a late afternoon out on the front stoop with some sidewalk chalk . . . one of MY favorite activities!
October1

Day 295

Running really behind here as last week was the week before my ACL surgery and the surgery took place Monday. Will do my best to catch up while keeping the old knee elevated, medicated, and refrigerated :) This was last Sunday. Spent the morning with the lovely pair on the left and their 2 month old beauty and the afternoon with the lovely pair on the right and their 2 month old cutie! Days like these, I count myself lucky!!
